A constant feature of his work is his penchant for forms, volumes and torsions and his passion for the organic, that recall nature in the abstract. His creations are often intentionally poetic,  fueled by a precise artisan lymph. 

His personal touch signature seal is invented from scratch : a metal shell tinted with multiple colors, reminiscent of Japonese Tsugaru-nuri (ancient traditional lacquer technique). Roland Mellan takes this technique to the next level by using metal as the base material, which gives it a distinctive texture and sheen.
